Of all the grass snakes i have caught in the past this is the first to ever react in this way. Photograph taken May 2007.

Nice picture Rupe - did you try the old trick of putting it the right way up and seeing if it immediately turned itself upside down again. Sometimes they will do it if startled without being handled.
